CUSD Hosts New Generation Conference

The Compton Unified School District English Learner Services Department, in partnership with GearUp Cal State University, Dominguez Hills and the University of California, Irvine, held the first New Generation Conference recently at Cal State University, Dominguez Hills.
CUSD Newcomer students from Whaley, Enterprise, Davis, Bunche Middle, Compton, Centennial, and Dominguez schools attended the event and received vital information about higher education opportunities and career pathways. Panel speakers shared their unique experiences of coming to the United States to pursue their career and personal goals.
Students participated in workshops about various topics ranging from developing one’s own identity to how to apply for college. CARACEN, the Central American Resource and Center, provided insights into the many community resources that are available for newly arrived students and their families. Representing a culturally and linguistically diverse group of students, Compton USD Newcomers garnered invaluable information to support their personal and professional aspirations.
