More Than 400 Scholars Enjoy CUSD Computer Science Expo

As part of National Computer Science Education Week, CUSD hosted more than 400 students at its Computer Science Expo at Caldwell Elementary. Scholars from Anderson, Bunche, Foster, and McNair Elementary were exposed to and participated in various interactive exhibits and exciting experiences that highlighted computer science in the arts and tech segments.

Some of the different activities included coding projects, flying drones through obstacles, programming robots to perform different tasks, experiencing virtual reality worlds, and more.

The goal of the Computer Science Expo for Compton Unified was to help highlight the different computer and tech programs and opportunities within the schools that help develop 21st-century global citizens and prepare CUSD scholars for future jobs in tech.

“At the Science Expo, we're demonstrating what computer science is all about,” explained CUSD STEAM Administrator Alvaro Brito. “This is week is pretty important because it's Computer Science Education week and students across America are learning about computer science."

"As part of that effort, here in Compton Unified, we have students from several of our schools and from our partners demonstrating to our scholars what computer science is about. We’ve got robotics, we’ve got some drones flying, and we have our wonderful partners showcasing the power of computer science.”

The visiting students were hosted by scholars from Centennial, Compton Early College, Davis, Laurel, and Whaley, as well as supporting partners like Apple, Google, 9dots, and others.
