Centennial and Whaley Win Titles at Esports Immersive Showcase

The Compton Unified School District held its Esports Immersive Showcase on Thursday, December 14 at Davis Middle School. The exciting event featured High School and Middle School Rocket League Esports tournaments, a live Mario Kart Tournament run by CUSDH Esports, an Esports panel, and much more.
Several hundred people attended Esports Immersive Showcase and enjoyed the exciting tournaments, informative panel, Esports college and career information, raffles, and hand’s on activities for all ages. The evening was an amazing opportunity for students to learn how the Esports world opens up careers in the STEAM and CTE fields.
The evening kicked off with a heart-pounding performance from the award-winning Compton High School Marching Band and then went right into the action-packed Rocket League Esports High School Tournament featuring Centennial, Compton Early College, Compton High School, and Dominguez High School Esports teams competing for the championship trophy and city bragging rights.
CUSD Board President Denzell Perry welcomed the crowd to the event and discussed how the school district was supporting events like these that helped prepare students for future jobs in technology.
The action was live-streamed on YouTube, with announcers onsite, calling all the action, and a full production crew broadcasting the heated competition. In the end, Centennial’s team won the coveted High School Championship trophy. In the Middle School Tournament, the Whaley Warriors won the title.
