CUSD Board Member Zurita Elected CABSE Vice President

Compton Unified School District Board of Trustees Member Satra Zurita was recently named Vice President of the California Association of Black School Educators (CABSE). CABSE is a non-partisan organization consisting of elected and appointed school officials, administrators, and instructors from across California who are committed to advancing equity for Black students. CABSE members represent public school districts, traditional public schools, governmental agencies, charter schools and charter school organizations, and community colleges.
Mrs. Zurita assumed the role of CABSE Vice President at the organization’s recent 3rd Annual Institute held at the Meritage Resort & Spa in Napa California. She also serves as a CABSE Governor.
“I am deeply honored to be elected as the Vice President of the California Association of Black School Educators, an organization I've been passionately involved with as a member of its governing board since its foundation,” she said. “Our shared commitment to advancing equity for Black students has been unwavering. I bring this passion daily as I work to serve the communities from Compton, East Rancho Dominguez, and North Carson in Area G. As a proud Compton High School graduate and third-generation resident, I am excited to further CABSE's vision, standing side by side with dedicated educators and administrators across California. Together, we will forge pathways of success and empowerment for our Black students.”
Board Member Zurita is serving her fifth term on the CUSD Board. She represents students and their respective families in Area G, covering neighborhoods stretching from Compton to North Carson, including communities of East Rancho Dominguez, Enterprise, Mona Park, Rosewood, Stevenson Village, West Rancho Dominguez, and Willowbrook. She has served as Board President for four terms, as well as four terms as Vice President.
In addition to Board Member Zurita’s current involvement with CABSE, CUSD Board Member Micah Ali is a founder and Conference Chairman of CABSE and its President Emeritus.
