Compton High School Coach Calvin Bryant

Compton High School Head Coach Calvin Bryant, who’s led the team for 16 years over two stints, discussed the team’s strengths, goals, and some of the key standouts. Here are his comments:

Goals: Our goal is, as a team, to come together and be very efficient as a group, as a staff, and making sure our guys are prepared to go out there and battle play for play. It doesn't matter who we are playing against. We have to be able to execute and be a productive team. As the season progresses, I think we will be a little bit more efficient, but right now we try to establish that glue and be really solid. Strengths: Our strength is our seniors. They are a good group of guys who have played together for four years. They're the glue of the team.

Team Standouts: Center Orlando Guzman, Tyree Sheppard, our linebackers Dwayne Douglas and Dallin Tonumaipea, Joseph Garcia, Hayden Ginn, Jake Matagi Mose-laulusa, and Matthew Iosua.

Best Team in the City: Of course, Compton High School. We’re going to be very competitive. I think we're going to show some fireworks. Season Predictions: We don’t really have a prediction. We want to make sure the execution is what you want to have. If we execute, great things happen. We want to execute what we want to do. We want to stop the other team from doing what they want to do. Once you do that, the wins will come. That's what the kids need to understand. Execution wins games.

Excited for Season Opener: We’re most excited for another year to be able to go out there and compete, put that blue on the field, and let our guys go out there and play some smash football. Biggest Rivalry: I feel like every game is a rivalry. We prepare so hard and play like every game is our last. We want to be victorious and we want our guys to have a productive game.
