Compton Success Profiles: Nathaniel Castano

Meet Nathaniel Castano, Compton Early College High School Class of 2023 graduate. He will be attending University of California, San Diego in the fall, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Nathaniel’s always been interested in motorized vehicles and what makes them work and Physics was his favorite class.
He’s been enrolled in Compton Unified schools his whole life, starting at Bursch Elementary, then going to Laurel Elementary, and finally attending high school at Compton Early College.
One of the biggest challenges Nathaniel faced at school was balancing his workload of both high school and college courses. But he says the opportunity for dual enrollment, graduating with an associate degree, and saving money on college courses made it all worth it.
Nathaniel’s favorite parts of high school were being on the volleyball team and becoming team captain, which helped him learn leadership skills, as well as forming a music club and band.
