Compton Success Profiles: Aaron Butler

Media Release

Meet Aaron Butler, Dominguez High School Class of 2023 graduate. He will be attending University of California, Los Angeles in the fall, on a full scholarship for African American Studies.

He struggled in his early childhood with reading and writing and was held back one year. But his teachers helped him catch up and excel. Aaron pointed out that the teachers at Dominguez really wanted to see the students succeed in school and achieve more in life.

Aaron noted one thing that people don’t know about Compton schools is all the resources they have. “We have a lot of connections to artists, athletes, and entrepreneurs here in Compton,” he said. “People don’t realize the number of connections and networking we have here.”

As a basketball player, he wanted to be a part of the legacy of the Dominguez basketball program. He enjoyed playing on the team and continuing that legacy.

He understands the importance of his academics. “I value my education because as black people, we don’t get a lot of opportunities, so when we do get an opportunity and people want to see you succeed, you should take full advantage of it,” Aaron explained.

Aaron Butler is another Compton Success Story.
