Lowanda Green

Board of Trustees

LoWanda Green was appointed to the Compton Board of Trustees in 2019. Her appointment filled the Board seat vacated upon the passing of the beloved Margie Garrett. Ms. Green brings with her an authentic love of Compton and a proven track record of success in the education sector. Prior to being appointed to the CUSD Board, Ms. Green worked tenaciously to help regain local control of Compton Community College.

Ms. Green understands the importance of consistent and committed leadership to ensure the future wellbeing of the families of Compton. In addition to regaining local control, under LoWanda Green’s leadership Compton Community College experienced the following historical accomplishments:

  • Achieved initial Accreditation from the Accrediting Commission on June 7, 2017.
  • Completed several facilities projects including the Library – Student Success Center, the Campus Infrastructure Projects, the Allied Health Building Project, the Football Field Renovation Project, and the Little Theatre Project.
  • Established the Early College High School in partnership with Compton Unified School District.
  • Opened a Health Center and Food Pantry for Compton College students.
  • Compton College received the Dr. John W. Rice Diversity & Equity Award, recognizing its Formerly Incarcerated Student Transition (F.I.S.T.) program, which promotes student equality, diversity and access.
  • Established a College Promise Program with Compton Unified School District, where beginning in Fall 2018, Compton Unified School District graduates tuition will be covered during their first year at Compton College.
  • Under her leadership, more than 150 Compton College students have received academic scholarships to further their education.
  • Also under her leadership, from 2014 to 2017, more than 1,100 Compton College students graduated with an Associate Degree, and more than 400 students earned certificates through Career and Technical Education programs.

A resident of Compton, LoWanda Green is looking forward to implementing new academic programs, building upon the District’s remarkable turnaround and elevation, increasing student enrollment, and offering more opportunities for our students to have experiences that open doors to careers of the future.
