Fifth Graders Dine at Lawry’s The Prime Rib

Lawry's The Prime Rib, 100 N. La Cienega Blvd., Beverly Hills, opened its doors again for 75 students from George Washington Carver Elementary School on Friday, May 2.

Todd Johnson, general manager, greeted the well-dressed students as they exited the bus and walked the 50-foot red carpet, which Lawry’s rolled out especially for them. Full Story...

Dominguez High Student Heads to Oxford and Cambridge Universities After She Wins International Contest

Sixteen-year-old Laura Villafana has lived in Compton for most her life, but this summer that’s all changing. The junior from Dominguez High School, in the Compton Unified School District (CUSD), is heading for England this summer, where she’ll study at Oxford and Cambridge universities, all-expenses paid. Compton Citizens Protest Against Proposed Education Cuts

Compton Unified Board Meetings Adopt New Format

CUSD's Board of Trustees have adopted a new format for its semimonthly board meetings.

Each meeting will continue to start at 5 p.m. However, as soon as the meeting officially convenes, the board will hear public comments regarding closed session items only. It will then recess and go immediately into closed session.  Full Story...
