Ralph Waldo Emerson is an academically focused K-5 school located on the southeast side of the city of Compton, California. Emerson Elementary School’s mascot is the Emerson tiger, representing courage, loyalty, and an enduring hunger for knowledge and self-improvement. As our tiger symbolizes perseverance and courage, we promote the same ideals in our students, by reminding them that they too can be successful with effort and determination.
Emerson Elementary School is committed to educational excellence and firmly believes that all students can learn and become productive citizens in society. Our primary goal is to increase academic achievement and opportunity for all students. We realize that high behavioral standards ensure a students’ academic success when positive social and citizenship skills are taught, modeled, reinforced, affirmed and expected. Addressing student behavior in such a comprehensive manner allows for the optimum use of instructional time and the opportunity to integrate effective teaching methods and materials which will meet the needs of every student, including those who are at-risk, those with special needs, as well as those who are gifted and talented.
