Principal's Message

I want to welcome all the new incoming ninth graders and wish you the very best during your first year of high school. Similiarly, I am extending a warm welcome to all the new employees, both teachers and classified staff that have joined us. We look forward to  he contributions you will make to student achievement this year.

My focus for this message is the recent Western Association of School and Colleges (W.A.S.C.) Accredation visit. Most of you have heard of this visit by now but may still have questions regarding how it relates to you; so let me explain the importance of the visit to you.

The W.A.S.C. visit was conducted from November 14, 2004 through November 17, 2004. We had seven visitors who went to every classroom and spoke individually with many student, parent, and teacher groups. After the three and one half day visit ended, the visiting committee made recommendations as to whether our school should be awarded a seal (recognition) which tells the world that your high school diploma represents a good quality education. Once we gain this seal, and I am sure we will, colleges and universities will accept your graduation diploma as meaning that you have successfully mastered the skills expected of high school graduates in California. Therefore, by putting your best foot forward during this visit, you demonstrated how much you value the learning that is occurring at Dominguez High School.

During this period, most students were on time to school and to class. Most students displayed the following habits during the visit: 1) Completed their classwork and homework, and displayed a friendly, courteous attitude; 2) Were respectful of one another; 3) Kept the campus clean; 4) Remained in class at all times for the entire period; 5) Were positive in their responses to those who interviewed you; 6) Knew their E.S.L.R.’s by heart (all five).

The visiting committee was pleasantly surprised with the level of knowledge students had regarding W.A.S.C. and as a result gave the student body a very positive rating. Finally, we can expect to find out the final results of the visitation in February 2005. Congratulations for a job well done!
